The PvdA wants to get parents after the birth of their baby six months paid leave to care for the baby. At least two months it should be for the father.

'Zes maanden betaald babyverlof, twee voor vaders'

Labour MP Keklik Yücel's proposals on Wednesday in a debate with the minister Lodewijk Asscher of Social Affairs. The plan is for the longer term.

FATHER LEAVE
Asscher brought before Budget Day to prolong the father leave from two to five days. Yücel finds this extension a good first step, but in the longer term it is insufficient. The six months will for its part on top of the five-day leave father and above the total of sixteen weeks of maternity leave to the mother.

Yücel states that a majority of men would like to spend more time caring for their children, but that's often just not possible. To break that should eventually allow the Netherlands to a 'Swedish model' with six months paid leave for the birth of a child.

HANDING IN SALARY
What Yücel regard be paid leave six months not introduced immediately. This must be done in stages. The cost of paid leave would for its part can be divided between the government, the employer and the parent himself. That example delivers during the leave a third of his salary.
