The Senate will today agree with the law against child brides. Actually, the law would be discussed only in late November, but it is now much quicker after big fuss about married underage girls get asylum in the Netherlands.
Last week reacted parties in parliament shocked by reports of child brides in the Netherlands. The Senate was summoned to quickly treat the law against forced marriages. With this law, all marriages with girls under the age of 18 is automatically terminated.
As of January 2014 would be at least 34 Syrian child brides have applied for asylum in our country. Another 22 teenage girls are on the way as nareizende brides' because their husband has been staying in the Netherlands.
The law is administered as a formality, which means that there will be no vote and no debate and the Senate agrees to the proposal. It is expected the law can now deal within weeks.
