Insurers are becoming fewer reports of fires and burglaries. In 2014, 35,000 burglaries and 100,000 fires reported to the insurance companies. That is a decrease of over 14 percent compared to 2013. Insurers seen since 2012 a decrease of fire and burglary.

"We think it's mainly criminal gangs, who are behind the burglaries," said the Association of Insurers. "You see that crime moves to the south, with growing cannabis plantations and ecstasy labs in Brabant and Limburg. And that attracts other shady criminals, including burglars."

Figures from the Association of Insurers come from the so-called risk monitor the covenant annually.

Country

People who live in rural areas, are most at risk of fire in the home. According to the insurers, the risk in Overijssel, North Brabant and Limburg greatest. That's probably because fires in areas where fewer people live not quickly be discovered and urban areas.

In 2014 was one of the 76 houses burnt, a year earlier was still in about 1 in 66. Around New Year, there are three times as many claims as fire on other days.

Quality Mark

Houses with a police mark have less chance of a fire or burglary. For such a label is good lighting needed and the doors and windows are extra sturdy locks. Also, a fire alarm required. When these households the risk of burglary fell by 30 percent and the risk of fire by 36 percent, say the insurers. About 1 in 10 homes has the stamp.
