Sower hate on the internet can expect police to door

Last weekend, the Leeuwarder Courant reported that police 15 to 20 "hate mongers" had visited Leeuwarden because of remarks on Facebook. The work of an overzealous cop? No, says the police against RTL Nieuws. Such visits take place across the country, but precise figures are available.

Freedom of speech

The police explained that most people simply do not realize what they produce with such statements on social media. They stand with their tweets and messages on Facebook in the gray area between freedom of expression and wrongful remark. "Without it they realize it, they invite other users from going over."

So the police come along. Without handcuffs. A visit from the police officer who comes to explain, is sufficient. "That scare people. Then the tweet is removed, or in some cases even though the message was removed from Facebook." According to police, people often understand "why we as police are concerned."

Make a choice
The police such rampant peat fires on the internet in mind since it got out of hand Project-X party in Haren in 2012. "There's always more work than we have available to people," said the police. "We must make a choice."
