Insurers together determine the pharmacy preparations are reimbursed

Health insurers will jointly agree on which pharmacy preparations are reimbursed.

That the government of Netherlands Health Insurers (ZN) decided that the association reported Wednesday.

This concerns in particular personalized medicines and supplied by pharmacy compounding. These are unregistered medicinal products prepared in a pharmacy and are delivered to other pharmacies.

This month, the national reimbursement list announced for next year. This list should bring clarity for policyholders.

Principle

It is true that some drugs by one insurer are reimbursed and not the other. That goes according to ZN against "the principle that the basic package should be the same for everyone."

Earlier this year, it seemed that such a joint decision by health insurers would be contrary to the Competition Act. After consultation between the health insurers and the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport became clear that collective agreements are possible, as supervisor Care Institute Netherlands is present at the meeting.

Pragmatic

"A pragmatic solution that gives policyholders clarity and fit together in the competition rules," says ZN-president André Rouvoet.

"In recent months many policyholders found themselves in uncertainty about the reimbursement of the medicines that are tailored to them. All these cause various regulations and conditions of individual insurers uncertainty for our policyholders," said Rouvoet.

If the approach suits, SNS also wants to make agreements in other areas.
