UMC Utrecht take all deaths among ENT microscope

The University Medical Center Utrecht (UMC Utrecht) goes all deaths in the department ear, nose and throat from 2011 to reconsider. Writes the hospital in an internal message, which is owned by RTL Nieuws.

Were also found two suspicious deaths not reported to the Health Inspectorate (Inspectorate). UMC Utrecht suggested last week that it had done nothing wrong. Friday, however, still it announced an external committee to commission an independent investigation. It will include the "culture and leadership within the hospital 'views. The research is enforced according to the UMCU through "signals and questions from different ranks of the organization."

All deaths
The memo indicates that it is not just an external study commissioned by the University Medical Center Utrecht. According to the report the hospital has also started their own investigation. It all deaths on the ENT department scrutinized in the past four years. The hospital confirmed the investigation, but could not give any explanation. Nor UMCU can tell whether it is also investigating other serious incidents that did not result in deaths.

The hospital also writes in the memo that the two contentious cases have been reported in the internal emergency committee. Who decided that the cases did not have to be reported to the Inspectorate. After it had become clear that Zembla investigating the ENT department, the hospital reported the disaster still at the Inspectorate. "We have already agreed with the Inspectorate that serious complications are fatal always be discussed with the Health Care Inspectorate," the hospital wrote in the internal message.
