People react faster

"Research shows that people respond more quickly when they see a blue flashing light," says Debby of Slegtenhorst, spokesperson for Public Works. "If the inspectors after a report from the traffic control center with blue flashing light to the accident driving, they are faster and can help sooner."

That also Rijkswaterstaat road stewards may carry blue light, may have unintended effects, warns traffic psychologist Gerard Tertoolen. "You run the risk that the blue zwaalicht becomes less valuable. Now most people are going for it on the side, because you know that there is a specific need and necessity. But that feeling, people may not have a road inspector."

At the snack bar at the door

According Tertoolen is respect for the blue flashing light though fewer. "You know to talk-talk from people who say that police cars or ambulances by red riding with the lights on while the urgency is not there. I even know a story of an ambulance that drove with lights flashing red light and a little later at the snack bar on the doorstep stood. "

The trial of Rijkswaterstaat takes two years. Over half a year, the use of the blue flashing light for the first evaluated.
