Annual deaths from carbon monoxide, even with new resumes

Every year five to ten dead and hundreds injured by carbon monoxide poisoning. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. And that is not due to old water heaters or poorly maintained heating systems.

The Dutch Safety Board (OVV) estimates that the scale of the problem, in reality, three to five times greater and there are so many more victims. The symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning are often just not recognized.

Modern and well maintained

Almost half of the accidents with carbon monoxide (46 percent) is done with central heating systems. Most of them are not old, but rather modern and well maintained, the OVV writes.

In the report published today, the Council says that periodic maintenance of equipment not adequate protection against carbon monoxide poisoning.

Furthermore, marks and certificates offer sufficient guarantees that the heating systems are indeed professionally landscaped. Finally working carbon monoxide detectors not spotless.

Not enough craftsmanship
Installers, regardless of whether they have a quality, yet often fall short in their workmanship, the Council concludes. The sector is too little supervision of work in people's homes.

The Safety Board says that manufacturers will need to take action by designing systems so that no increased concentration of carbon monoxide can be released at the wrong instance.
