Do not jump was not an option, so Nunes looks back on his heroism in the early morning of 2016 ,, Of course, I dove into the water to save the man. But I did it for myself, '' said the Dutchman. ,, If I had done nothing, that would haunt me all my life. Then I would not be able to look myself in the mirror. ''

It apparently was meant to be, says Nunes. Four times he was during New Year's Eve is about to go home. Time and again his friends knew him to persuade to come along to the next party. But at 8:00 am it would have been really nice. He had his friends dropped in Schiedam and drove home.

Sway
Suddenly, the floodgates of Parkhaven, were two women swinging wildly on the road. In poor Dutch (I think they came from the Eastern Bloc ') told them that a man in the water had fallen. ,, For a moment I thought of a raid, but soon I realized that there really was someone struggling in the water. I jumped out of the car. ''

Nunes called the police and saw how quickly the victim lost his powers. ,, At one point he gave no response and sank deeper into the water. I was honestly afraid of the cold, but had no choice - I had to chase them. ''

In the dark water, he managed to find the victim and hoisting up. Then he kept the unconscious victim with one arm. With his other hand he grabbed hold of a staircase along the high embankment. From the office of the Seaport Police in the vicinity of the Parkhaven was now an agent toegesneld. They also knew how cold the water. The agent quickly pulled on a survival, says Nunes: ,, I cried out: "Come on, I'm getting a little tired! '' '

Blind drunk
The victim appeared to be a 25 year old man who drunk the water had fallen. With hypothermia, he was taken to hospital. He is now quite back.

Police took savior Nunes, who works as a lecturer at the College Albeda, to the house of his mother. Wrapped in blankets he entered. ,, My mother first thought that I had driven my car into the water. But the agent said, 'Do not get angry Madame, your son has saved a life!' '' And so the Rotterdam police called him bluntly "the first hero of the 2016 '.

Or Nunes, who lives in Crooswijk with his family, feels a hero? ,, Well, I shall focus laugh. Then I think I once again ... ''
