"First you clear the board, then you are allowed to table!" is perhaps the most pronounced sentence at a table with children, but educational rule now seems to be outdated.

Is it to you as a child always drummed to eat your plate, then chances are that you are still difficult even to leave with leftovers. Not conducive to a healthy weight, claims a study by Liverpool University. According to a survey of 385 respondents said they always clean their plate of food items, have a greater chance of a high BMI than those who just leave.

Outdated rule?
Children require and so learn to eat everything, it may well be obsolete according to this study. The scientists also point out that this rule makes it more difficult for children to feel themselves when they have eaten enough. Researcher Dr Eric Robinson: "Your board should eat has become maladaptive behavior empty, in an environment where obesity is lurking everywhere." In addition, that portions of meals - both in restaurants and in supermarkets - have become increasingly larger. The study highlights even further to investigate the long term effect of emptying food from your plate and weight gain.

Small portions, small plates
How then do let your child eat enough, without forcing it to eat his plate empty? Beginning in each case with small portions, the study recommends. For adults, it can help to eat from smaller plates, as we already wrote here . Did you do the irrepressible tendency to eat your plate, you have already in a smaller portion.
