Absenteeism in the police is extremely high. Last year was 7 percent of all agents home sick; a day that 4600 people. The chairman of the central works council wants an independent investigation into the causes of absenteeism.

"Companies really complain about the restructuring and work pressure, but I must come to an investigation. Tonight talks with Chief Constable pole and then I will insist on such an independent investigation. I am well done."

In 2014 was 6.1 percent of the agents home sick, and 5.7 percent in 2013. In other professions, the percentage averaged 3.8. When corps East Brabant absenteeism by 7.7 percent and the highest relative to the police more women than men sick.

Bad sleeping

Force management does have taken measures to reduce absenteeism, but hardly help. Still know a lot of cops out where they stand. For example, some agents have to go 100 kilometers away suddenly work if they get a new job profile. That would cause sleep deprivation.

Minister Van der Steur said in response that he finds excessive absenteeism. Rather, he spoke of "deferred maintenance" at that point. But he thinks it's too short-sighted to designate the reorganization of the police as the cause. "The police are now working hard in. Caring for people is key."
