It comes to patient data or names participating in scientific research. Of these 199 patients are still alive.

A hospital spokesman writes: ,, We have no reason to believe that the theft was focused on the research. To date, the stolen disk is not found. The chances of this happening still seems very small. "

The theft was only recently reported to the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek. According to the hospital staff should not take patient data on insecure media. ,, That this has happened, we deeply regret, '' said Antoni van Leeuwenhoek. A spokeswoman for the hospital announced that the researcher's contract will not be renewed. ,, The person will soon leave our hospital. '

Quality not affected
According to the hospital, the theft does not have any influence on the treatment undergone by patients. ,, The quality of the treatment is not affected in any way. Also ongoing research can continue without consequences. ''

The patients concerned are informed Thursday. The loss of the external hard drive has been reported to the police, the Authority and the Personal Health Inspectorate (Inspectorate).
