Dutch surviving atomic bomb gets compensation

The 95-year-old Dutchman Dick Büchel van steenbergen will get a compensation because he was in Nagasaki when the atomic bomb fell there in 1945.

Prisoners of war In 2014 was Büchel van steenbergen by the city Nagasaki all official recognition as a victim of the atomic bomb. He sat on 9 August 1945 as prisoners of war Royal Dutch East Indies army KNIL soldier stuck in the city, less than 2 km from the place where the Fat Man atomic bomb exploded.

He found shelter in the factory Hall in which he was set to work. Thereby, he managed to survive the blast. In 1945 there were about 150 Dutch prisoners of war in Nagasaki. More than 140 of them survived the atomic bomb.
