One man is wounded and one arrest has been made following the shooting at around 6pm.

The man was shot in the abdomen. Injuries sustained are thought to be serious, but not life-threatening.

He was shot outside an eaterie called Chez Papa on Boulevard de la Bastille.

The gunman was seen running away, before being arrested by police nearby and taken into custody.

A motive behind the shooting is not yet established. Some French media are reporting the incident ‘as an argument that escalated’.

‘We have no names for those involved,’ said a local police spokesman.

The police source said they had no reason to believe the incident was terror related.

Early reports suggested further assailants were on the run, though officials have not commented on the speculation.

The French capital is on high alert following the devastating terror attacks last year.

The shooting comes around four months after an Islamic State terror cell killed 130 innocent people in a series of coordinated attacks across Paris.

Extremists targeted bars and restaurants in the Bastille area on November 13th, as well as the nearby Bataclan music venue during an Eagles of Death Metal gig.
