Alphonse Peeters, the chief of the local police of Brussels South (Anderlecht / Sint-Gillis / Frost), has resigned yesterday since 2009 and was replaced temporarily by Chief Constable Patrick Evenepoel, until now the deputy chief of police. Reported that the police Brussels South on its website.

Het Nieuwsblad was suggested that chief Peeters was pushed to the side because he would fail but that is formally contradicted by the Anderlecht Mayor Eric Tomas.

"The Police College has Mr. Peeters not fired or pushed aside," said Mayor Tomas. "The, the Brussels Region has a new setting he himself who has asked to be replaced. A few months ago he had already indicated that he would leave possibly. After the last reform of the State, which are allocated a number of safety tasks to the Regions of established public utility, Brussels Prevention & Security, to carry out those tasks. Mr. Peeters was eligible for that function. the confirmation has come early March that he would be posted to Brussels Prevention & Safety. Therefore chief Patrick Evenepoel will now be taken about serving as police chief. "

Mayor Thomas admits that there was criticism of the functioning of Alphonse Peeters as police chief. "As is the case for all managers," says the mayor. "The criticism was especially the way in which public order was maintained. There are indeed people who are now satisfied he leaves, but there are also as many and which he would rather not have you leave."
