A study shows that IS supports no means nearly 80 percent of Arab youths among 3,500 young people in 16 different Arab countries. Last year, that figure was 60 percent. That reports The Washington Post.

The survey was held in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia. Syria did not participate because of the continuing unrest in the country.

POLITICAL BELIEFS
When asked why people from the Middle East joined the militant group said a large majority that came through socio-economic conditions. Only 18 percent thought that religion played an important role. The higher unemployment in countries, the greater the chance that people therefore wanted to join IS.

Also revealed that many people are disappointed in the Arab Spring. Last year, 72 percent of respondents still that their country stood for more than five years ago. Now that's 36 percent.

ECONOMY AND RELIGION
The survey also shows that religion might play a smaller role in the extraordinary growth of IS in recent years. Often cited religion as an excuse, but it is not the cause of the underlying anger: it is rather in poor living conditions.
