The trial in the murder of Nicole van den Hurk from Eindhoven on Tuesday morning continued in Den Bosch 11:00. This session will revolve mainly around the DNA test. Reporter Bart-Jan van Rooij is present in the courtroom and doing via Twitter report.

The case of the 1995 murdered Nicole van den Hurk was quiet since early December because suddenly two witnesses came forward. It involves two former forensic psychiatric patients who have been in the clinic with suspected Jos G. (48). That would have the G. said that he had brought a girl to life. Justice suspects that this is Nicole van den Hurk.

To identify the relationship between the accused and witnesses, fifteen people have been heard. G. said Tuesday at the meeting that he and a witness ,, as dog and cat 'interacted with each other and that their relationship was not particularly good. This is contradicted by a therapist, who indicated that the two men at the clinic just pokerden together.

Rocket learned
According to one of the witnesses has admitted ,, G. The worse things '' to have done. ,, Bicycle theft? '' Suggested the witness. ,, No, murder, '' The G would have answered. The witness described it Tuesday as a possible grandiloquence. ,, But given the situation, I need to be a rocket scientist to know that he did it. ''

The other witness selling weed to the G. They touched on it in conversation. G. would have said to have slain a 'girl'. ,, He said he did not kill her, but she made him ridiculous. Then he stabbed her. ''

Expert from New Zealand
The case Tuesday also about DNA material. The DNA found in the case is re-analyzed in New Zealand. Recently appointed an expert in that country and the courts must provide clarity whether the DNA found on the 48-year-old suspect is. To our knowledge this is the first time that the relatively new method is used in a Dutch trial.

Nevertheless, it is the question of whether the investigation of DNA will eventually provide for firm proof. Both the prosecution and the defendant lawyer recognize that at present there is still much uncertainty about the DNA test. An expert of the NFI Tuesday should clarify how the DNA found at the G. link.

DNA from three persons
The problem is that in a semen found trace DNA is of at least three persons. One of those people is, according to the prosecution, the accused, a Valkenswaard grew up tbs'er which was previously convicted of violent rapes. Because DNA experts disagreed on the evidence and the conclusions drawn from them, the third expert appointed to examine the reliability of the DNA evidence. This is done with a developed in Australia and New Zealand program.

It is a mathematical, statistical method, not a laboratory technique. The methodology can be used when there is in one track DNA of several individuals. Including in the United States through the use of specialist equipment very recently solved some crimes. Supporters of the process say that the probative value of DNA material which first appeared too weak to be used can now be reinforced.
