Ard van der Steur Minister of Security and Justice wants the section of the law which states that insulting a friendly head of state is punishable go deleted.

The law became discredited when the German comedian John Böhmermann got on the German justice behind him after he had insulted Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

FREEDOM OF SPEECH
A similar law exists in the Netherlands, so you can be prosecuted so if you like Böhmermann says Erdogan is a goat fucker ,, "and ,, pedophile". VVD MP Joost Taverne suggested Tuesday that the law should be deleted. He finds the law violates freedom of expression. According Taverne it is also not necessary that a foreign head of state is better protected than their own citizens.

Van der Steur will now examine whether the article can be deleted. He's going to see include how often the law is used. He expects to leave later this week to know whether it is actually possible to abolish the law and on what term it may.
