Plan for 2 football fields of solar panels on metro stations

On the roofs of nineteen Amsterdam-above-ground metro stations are probably solar panels. The generated power is used for the escalators.

d6c4113b-6a4d-4070-8849-ae7c29921dcf-2.jpgIt is an initiative of city region Amsterdam, CFP and the municipality. Goal is to save on energy costs and CO2 emissions. The money saved goes to management and maintenance of public transport.

The sunroof on metro Van der Madeweg is the largest. The total area of all roofs together is 10000 square meters, or two football fields with large solar panels. The amount of electricity that is generated is equivalent to the energy consumption of 400 households per year.

Reigersbos it is intended that with the generated current under other escalators and lighting. First, though the Government still decide to contribute financially. The Amsterdam urban region hopes to get the green light in June.

Locals were already at the end of last year the chance to kopenop their own Solar Panel metro Reigersbos. A total of 320 energy cooperative Amsterdam Energy should solar panels put on the metro stop in Gaasperdam.
