Visa-free travel: Turkey fulfills conditions?

Turks can perhaps from next summer visa-free travel to Europe. The European Commission Wednesday there probably agree, the BBC reports.

But according to the British channel satisfy the Turks are not the conditions set for it.

The visa free travel is a part of the deal that travels the EU concluded previously with Turkey, around the flow of migrants from Turkey to Greece. Turkey has promised to better monitor and refugees who illegally cross over to take back. That seems to work: in April 3500 there were no refugees in Greece, compared with almost 14,000 in April 2015.

However, the EU is worried that Turkey's reins again late celebrate. That the European Commission as soon agree to travel without a visa, there has also to do with it, according to the BBC. Because Turkey does not yet meet the criteria set for the visa-free travel.

According to sources, the BBC, the EU nevertheless agreed because of the political turmoil that arose last year after large groups of migrants entered Europe. That the EU is still agrees, mainly would be a sop. In order to keep some pressure on Turkey, it is insisted that it later must meet the criteria.

Turks wishing to travel to the EU without visas, must moreover do have a biometric passport. The EU expects therefore relatively few Turks will take advantage of the visa-free travel: Few Turks have such a passport, and it is quite expensive to buy one.
