The police earlier this year, all 58,000 asylum seekers who came to the Netherlands in 2015 once again checked for possible threats to national security.
All names are checked for possible 'hits' in the terrorism databases of the police. From which additional control are no details emerged.
This is stated in a letter from the Ministers of Security and Justice, Ard van der Steur and Klaas Dijkhoff. They we respond to a report by the Inspectorate of Security and Justice stating that the identification process asylum seekers rather not proceeded carefully.
Improvements have been made
Because there are thousands of asylum seekers came to the Netherlands at the same time, their identity was not properly monitored, it was previously known. Meanwhile (recently) made improvements, finds the inspection.
It is not yet clear whether the identification process now functions optimally, allowing traffickers, criminals or potential jihadists should be noted. There is not enough staff to 'read' more phones suspicious refugees.
