The parents of prolific paedophile Richard Huckle begged police to take away their son after he told them he had abused children aged between three and 13, a court has heard.
Huckle, 30, is facing multiple life sentences at the Old Bailey after he admitted an unprecedented 71 child sex offences.
The freelance photographer was arrested by the National Crime Agency when he touched down at Gatwick airport en route to spend Christmas at home with his family in 2014.
After his computer was seized, Huckle was bailed on condition he return to his parents' home, which was searched by police, prosecutor Brian O'Neill said.
Huckle refused to answer police questions, but when his mother asked him about the allegations the following day, he admitted he had abused young children.
Mr O'Neill told the court: "His mother was both extremely upset and extremely angry. She and his father called the police and asked them to take their son away.
"Both have made witness statements in support of this prosecution."
Investigators managed to uncover more than 20,000 indecent images of children from Huckle's computer, even though he refused to give them any passwords.
But they were unable to access some encrypted files, which are believed to contain "numerous" depraved images, as well as the names of a large number of unknown potential victims.
As well as the draft of Huckle's paedophile manual, they found a "Pedopoints" ledger in which he awarded himself marks for acts of depravity with children.
A total of 191 children were mentioned in Huckle's scorecard.
The offences Huckle has admitted include multiple rapes against 23 identified children aged between six months and 12 years old.
Twenty-two of the charges carry life sentences.
A further 20 charges will lie on the court file when he is sentenced by Judge Peter Rook QC on Friday.
