Cry for help from Europe's biggest prison

Fleury-MÉROGIS-the Director of the largest prison in Europe, which in Fleury-Mérogis about 20 kilometres south of the Centre of Paris, has great alarm about the untenable situation.

The news channel BFMTV on has a letter from Nadine Picquet in which she states that due to the increasing overcrowding the State is unsustainable for both prisoners as the staff.


In the 1960s the risen complex employs more than 4500 detainees, while it is built for 3000. New prisoners can often only somewhere on a mattress.

The letter to the prefect of the Department of Essonne and the boss of the Paris prison system is according to BFMTV on 20 June sent and very worrying.

The tensions between the staff and the inmates rise. In the complex, that a House of detention is for young people, men and women, are also more than a hundred people who are suspected of terrorism. One of them is Salah Abdeslam, one of the perpetrators of the attacks in november in Paris.
