Former VVD Member Jos van Rey convicted of bribery

He claimed in court gifts and business trips in a friendly developer while he should have known that this was done in the context of corruption as a very experienced politician.

Rey according to the court was bribed with soccer travel, real estate grants and payments to the company of his children. He also violated confidentiality and he fumbled with voting passes. The Mayor election he claimed the court made a "puppet."

Not integer
The court today issued a comprehensive judgment. According to the judges, Van Rey once held enough time away and he did not act like a politician with integrity. He has thus harmed the prestige of public administration. However, the court found that the image of a man who put millions into his own pockets, not true.

Acquittal
According to the court are not all offenses proved against him. For example, certain trips between the politician and the developer be seen for example in the context of their friendship. This is not punishable. Also for the purpose of money laundering and vote buying, the court sees no legal and convincing evidence.

Two years
The prosecution claimed earlier two-year prison sentence against Van Rey because he had accepted bribes from his friend and developer Pete Pol in exchange for contracts. He would have violated his duty of confidentiality as a member of the confidential advisory committee for the appointment of a new mayor of Roermond in 2012. He would interview questions and have passed the correct answers to his favorite candidate.
