Children's Cancer Hospital Director arrested

Hospital Director Walter c. was bribe by people to whom he granted commands, so is the suspicion.

The director in charge of the construction of the 180-million children's cancer hospital Princess Maxima Center in Utrecht on Monday arrested on suspicion of corruption and forgery.

The suspicion is that he bribed his previous role as construction manager of the Utrecht St. Antonius Hospital for more than two tonnes by a construction company. The prosecution does not comment on the Defendant's name and institution. Justice does not as a rule with suspicion.

Walter C. received include meals, tickets to football games, cash and renovations to his private home to some 100,000 euros. The builder he allowed commands.

The construction of the St. Anthony hospital eventually cost around 300 million euros. The hospital became rather discredited after the 25 million too much to not declare insurers. For this, it got fined 2.5 million euros.

C. is employed by the Princess Maxima Center since early 2014 built a brand new hospital in Utrecht to concentrate the treatment of children with cancer in one place in the Netherlands.

The Princess Maxima Center announced that C. was adopted after a rigorous selection process as a new director.

Discussions with C., with Antony and the investigation of the accountant came under the Princess Maxima Center "no incriminating facts" forward. "There was at that time no reason to reconsider the appointment."

Justice has seized the property of C., for an amount of 215 154 euros. The Prosecution has done so "because crime should not pay", so Tuesday said in a statement. Justice does not mention any names of those involved and relevant authorities.

Besides C. is also the contractor who did the renovation apprehended at the home of C..

The spokesman of the Princess Maxima Center reports that C. has reported sick Monday.

( "We have to make attempts to contact him. That is so far not succeeded yet.")

The hospital will further investigate the "current situation around the construction director." St. Antonius Hospital refused to comment.
