A vehicle Thursday night on the busy Promenade des Anglais crashed into a crowd. Potentially implicated dozens of people were slain.
Eyewitnesses reported in the French media that they have seen people lying on the streets.
Some thought shots had been heard. It is not clear if it really comes to shots, or that it was fireworks. The French currently celebrating Quatorze JUILLIET, the annual festival on July 14. Pictures on Twitter show that people run away crying and screaming.
Local authorities called to keep the population at home.
