Former Ajax chairman Uri Coronel (69) is deceased Monday afternoon after he became ill in a gym in South Amsterdam. Confirming his family Het Parool.

Amsterdam Coronel was from April 2008 to mid-2011 president of Ajax. He was a committee which vetted the affairs of Ajax and came with advice. The report of the committee Coronel was the prelude to the departure of then President John Jaakke. Not much Coronel later took over his duties.

Coronel was from 1989 to 1997 even though the board of Ajax. As a board commercial affairs he made the Champions League win with under Louis van Gaal in 1995. He was a driving force behind the move of De Meer stadium to the Arena in 1996.

Coronel was an honorary member of Ajax. He put his work down in 2011 after a protracted conflict with Johan Cruyff. Upon his departure as director he called the club "the best thing that's happened to me in my life." The title Ajax that season on the final day achieved after an epic 3-1 home win over FC Twente, he thought of the 21 championships he experienced the best.

In addition to his involvement with Ajax Coronel had a very successful career in the insurance industry. He also dedicated himself to Artis and employers' organization VNO-NCW. Coronel, who has never known much of his family by the Holocaust, was strongly against anti-Semitism throughout his life.
