Turkey issued the arrest warrant in the context of "cleansing" of people who maintain ties with the imam Fethullah Gulen living in the US, which is held responsible by Turkey for the failed coup.

In the hunt for Gülen supporters in recent weeks Turkey has closed many institutions and arrested more than 60 thousand people, dismissed or suspended. Include 167 scientists dismissed and 1,112 clergy have put out their duties.

Politics

In February, former footballer Sukur became persecuted because he Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan insulted on Twitter. The content of the tweets would offend "Erdogan and his son." The legendary Turkish striker risks four years in prison for the alleged insults. The tweets are no longer online. Şükür himself denies it were the tweets about the president or his son.

When Şükür stopped in 2008 after a long football career, with 51 goals in 112 international matches top scorer of all time in Turkey, he chose politics. In 2011 Şükür was elected as MP for the AKP, the conservative party of President Erdogan. In 2013 he left the party when Erdogan clashed with the exiled Islamist leader Fethullah Gulen to America. He then continued as an independent MP.
