Netherlands wants international opinion about Turkish law

After the failed coup in Turkey Netherlands wants an international assessment of the state of the Turkish state. The judgment should come from the Council of Europe, an organization including human rights and democracy.

Development minister Bert Koenders of Foreign Affairs today advocated by the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. He and his colleagues, including the Turk Mevlüt Cavusoglu, leaned on the situation in Turkey after the coup attempt. Cavusoglu assured that Turkey will respect the rule of law.

He stressed that the coup was directed against democratic institutions, including the parliament. ,, The goal was to bring us. But we will never forget that the law should apply. ''

He believes it is important that the Human Rights Commissioner of the Council of Europe will visit Turkey. The Netherlands also wants to find out whether the Board in lawsuits of suspected coup plotters and supporters may be present. Mr Koenders has reaffirmed that the 'export' of tensions must be curbed in Turkey to other countries.
