Friends keep vigil for deceased Jordy B.

In the city park Ninove his Saturday afternoon a hundred people gathered to hold a vigil for the 19-year-old Jordy B in late August hardship died in the Ghent Blaarmeersen.

The initiative was based on friends and acquaintances of Jordy, and among those present were family members, youth workers, Mayor Tania Young (Open VLD) and some members of the Aldermen and the city council. The vigil was music and lyrics were read. Like the farewell ceremony Thursday, concluding white balloons were launched.

Jordy B. died in late August in a tent at the Ghent Blaarmeersen. It soon turned out that the young man much of his childhood was spent in an institution, and according to those involved, he was unable to care for themselves. His death led to a public debate on (potential) problems in the transition from youth to adult care.

"The problem has gotten the attention it deserves," said Mayor Young after the vigil. "I think this is the beginning to be a thorough debate involving young people who meet after their 18th their beautiful freedom, should have a threshold-lowering assistance in one way or another."

Flemish parliament Freya Van den Bossche (SP.A) meanwhile launched an appeal to call the committee together early Welfare and thereby gained the support of coalition partners.

This: nearly 400 people scattered in eight days more than 10,200 euros to pay for the funeral last Thursday. What remains is donated to the accompaniment home Hopper (Aalst).The crowdfunding action is closed Sunday evening.
