More long-convicts still at large

The number of convicts with an outstanding prison sentence of at least four months is still out there, has risen again. Reported EenVandaag based on internal documents of the Ministry of Security and Justice where the TV program about features.

Naamloos2-381.pngIn total, nearly twelve thousand convicted criminals with outstanding jail a free man. About a quarter of this, a prison sentence of four months or more open. In total there are 3209 long fugitive convicts. In 2009 there is still 2139. In 2015 this number rose to 2843.

The most common offenses committed by the fugitives are theft, violence and burglary. In one year, a total of 466 offenders identified with an outstanding prison sentence of 120 days.

The National Unity police announced earlier today that a special police team to hunt fugitives has been arrested over two hundred criminals since its inception in early 2015. The police team FastNL however, focuses on convicted criminals with over 300 days of cell balance and no fixed have place of residence.

Klaas Dijkhoff Secretary for Security and Justice in a letter to parliament that he wants to strengthen the detection of long-convicts. He wants the improvement of the information to the police. In a central system agents receive all outstanding penalties that checks can be consulted via their smartphone.
