The referendum on the association agreement between Ukraine and the European Union continues.
The Electoral Council this morning announced that the committee no level has raised enough signatures to force a consultative referendum.
For a referendum need 300,000 valid requests. There were over 472 000 signatures put and according to the Electoral Council met there 427 939 comply with regulations, that should be enough. The Electoral Council to random checking.
It is the first time that voters can decide on a law that was already adopted. That possibility exists since July 1st.
Under no level is the treaty amounts to an extension of the EU and it is therefore important for democracy that the people where expressed.
No partyJan Roos GeenStijl, one of the initiators of the referendum, said in a note that his campaign is mainly aimed to vote to call on the population. To be valid, the referendum is a turnout of at least 30 percent needed. GeenStijl itself will not take sides.
Thierry Baudet of the citizens' EU, which has campaigned for the referendum, continues to fight against the Association Agreement. "It is meant to draw Ukraine in the EU, Ukraine should be a neutral zone between, without the EU or Russia do not have to claim the land."
The referendum must be held in six months. The exact day is determined by the so-called referendum commission.
