Netherlands great in cybercrime

Dutch criminals have a large share in the market of illegal products on the Internet. According to the Prosecution would be placed on one of the illegal market places even 10 percent of the orders from Dutch retailers.

So says the prosecution during an international consultation on cybercrime. Police and judicial services in the EU, US, Australia and Norway met in Noordwijk today to jointly tackle illegal trade on the Internet.

The investigating authorities are targeting illegal market places that only a special way to reach and not discoverable through normal search engines. To gain access to this market place you should use the Tor network. It lets you move your completely anonymous on the Internet. The Tor network is therefore particularly popular with criminals.

Dutch very active
Last year, five Dutch detect these illegal goods offered on the so-called 'Dark Web'. Undercover agents took orders after they were able to trace the suspects. When the criminals 900 bitcoins were seized, worth half a million euros.

In another study, the police managed to arrest a suspect in IJmuiden which was according to the public one of the largest online drug traffickers. He was arrested after the transfer of 10 kilos of amphetamine and a large quantity of ecstasy pills.

Servers extract from the air
The joint international approach should ensure that illegal trade via the Internet more difficult and less anonymous. Last year 17 people were arrested and 410 Tor servers off the air in a coordinated action involving 17 countries were involved.
