Cancer mortality in the Netherlands the second highest in Europe

The Netherlands is among the countries with the most cancer deaths in Europe. Nearly one in three Dutch dies from the disease. Only in Slovenia is relatively more people die from cancer.

In the Netherlands, deceased in 2012 43.538 people from the disease. More men deceased from cancer (23 642) than women (19 894).

Lung cancer in the Netherlands is the most common fatal cancer by 27 percent, followed by cancer (12 percent), breast cancer (7 percent), pancreatic cancer (6 percent) and prostate cancer (6 percent).

Cancer is the leading cause of death in Europe, one in four people. Annually, nearly 1.3 million Europeans die from the disease.
