The NS will soon deploy more staff on trains after ten o'clock at night. That has agreed NS with the railway unions and the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment.
There are 140 additional principal conductors and 60 new employees Safety & Service.
The parties consulted with each other on security in the trains after an incident on the railway line from Heerlen to Germany. Since last week a German guard stabbed by a zwartrijder. Also Dutch conductors are frequently targets of aggression.
The NS decided to recruit additional conductors already promised last year to bet on late trips on Thursday and Saturday. The unions said they were not enough and accused the NS moreover to linger with recruitment. The NS has now promised it to start immediately and also on Friday to deploy additional conductors.
The 140 new conductors are used only in the course of next year, because they not only need to be recruited, but also educated. In the meantime, NS tries from existing capacity as much as possible to meet trains at risk evenings an extra conductor. Failing that, the company provides additional access control and security guards.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment is charged with the deployment of 60 additional security personnel. Which are used as flexible teams on the other nights, especially at risk lines.

The unions are satisfied with the commitments. "Finally concretely implemented the earlier agreement made for double staffing on the trains," says FNV negotiator Andries van den Berg. Also CNV Professionals is pleased "with this firm commitments." CNV director Evert Jan van de Mheen says keen to keep an eye on whether the measures are sufficient.
