Enjoy, but drink in moderation. Who knows the slogan? But this is at risk.

The new directive provides alcohol: Do not drink alcohol or at least no more than one glass. Apart from that this slogan technically bullied so good, says the Foundation for Responsible Alcohol Consumption (Stiva) advice too strict. The foundation therefore revolts.

DOUBT SEEDING
This revolt is comprised of the launch of the website alcoholrichtlijn.nl. Stiva, consisting of Dutch manufacturers and importers of beer, wine and spirits, will revise the directive alcohol and wants with the website the "scientific doubt" show on the advice of the Health Council.

After the old alcohol advice - two glasses men and women one glass per day - in 2006, according to Stiva no scientific studies published for justifying a stricter standard. In addition, the Health Council finds that moderate alcohol consumption also has some positive effects, except at risk. "The results in the standards that people better not to drink?" Stivo wonders.

The consumer gets confused by the ambiguous advice, says Peter Wolf, director of Stiva. Because in similar countries that use the same research data apply much lower standards. "The scientific clarity which prevailed, by the new directive will be jeopardized," says Wolf. "We like to see the two scientific camps together to engage in dialogue on the new directive."

Step, the Dutch Institute for Alcohol Policy, argues in turn that the alcohol industry is trying to undermine the credibility of the new opinion by casting doubt not "recognize the social importance of the new directive." "As more and more studies of the relationship between alcohol consumption and the emergence of various forms of cancer demonstrate," says Wim van Dalen, director of STAP.

"DRAMATIC EFFECT '
Van Dalen compares the strategy of Stiva with that of the chemical and tobacco industries which at that time were trying to sow doubt about the dangers of asbestos and the relationship between smoking and lung cancer "by funding scientists to conduct similar analyzes." "The dramatic consequence of this strategy was that effective government measures have been delayed for years by a number of unnecessary casualties."
