He stresses the importance of improving the exchange of information between the intelligence and security services of European member states.

In an interview with the Tagesspiegel am Sonntag he says that alone together in the German anti-terrorist center forty bodies. "In a European center should cooperate countless services from 28 countries. It is very unlikely that this can work in the short term."

According to the minister a European terreurbesrijdingscentrum can only get off the ground as the member states delegate powers. And therefor must be adapted European treaties."Such changes take time, and time, we are not right." According to him, there is a danger that the much needed collaboration delayed by discussions on adjustment of treaties.

De Maizière feels more to step up cooperation and rapidly expand. In addition, he is thinking of linking data in databases such as Eurodac, where the fingerprints of refugees are stored in, the Schengen Information System for the detection of persons and the Visa Information System.
