One of the four homeless people who live in a sewer pipe in Utrecht is Wednesday escaped death. A candle had started to smolder and the woman had almost succumbed to smoke inhalation.

,, A half hour later, and she was not able to say after, '' said a police officer just after they had pulled the 35-year-old Evelyn from the smoking pipe. Clothing and plastic bags already had caught fire.

The dangerous situation was discovered by a photographer and reporter of the AD, who came to inform how to proceed with the four homeless people after they had been previously told this week that they had gone out of their self-built shelter under the Catharijnesingel. The city of Utrecht found the situation too dangerous there.

At first it seemed there Wednesday afternoon around two hours no one present in the zelfgebuowde 'home room'. Further investigation into the sewer pipe itself learned that there was in the back still was sleeping one person may have been overcome by smoke. Because the woman did not get up, 112 was called. Thereafter, the police tore up the lot, after the fire was extinguished and Evelien was freed from her plight. The woman was quite approachable, but was taken to the hospital for further examination.
