Amsterdam landed at a "critical zone" by closing brothels less than previously planned, while cutting back on the number of supervisors.

Rond de Wallen zijn de afgelopen jaren 126 van de 470 ramen gesloten

This says criminologist Cyrille Fijnaut Friday in an interview with Het Parool.

In the nineties he was a founder of the coordinated crime-fighting around the Red Light District, where he was closely involved until 2012.

Around the red light district in recent years 126 of the 470 windows closed, in an attempt to restore balance in the Old Town and get more grip on criminal influences.

"How can you find it normal that girls are being exploited? Is that the freedom of Amsterdam? "

anvankelijk would follow 83 windows, but because of reduced political support for 'Project 1012', as the operation is called, is the end of last year but decided to close 37 windows. Therefore, the prostitution sector remains higher than previously planned.

According to Professor Emeritus Fijnaut should be the consequence that there are more enforcement officers to check the sector. Due to cuts in the town are there just fewer: 736, two hundred less than a few years ago.

Critical zone
Fijnaut ". All the more reason to reduce the prostitution sector If you have fewer windows close and less enforcement, you find yourself in a critical area."

The emeritus professor calls the Amsterdam policy on square to stand behind Project 1012. "It is not a moralistic campaign. It is about human rights and the rule of law. How can you find it normal that girls are being exploited? Is that freedom of Amsterdam?"
