For the first time in two years, the NATO-Russia Council together again. Within two weeks, take NATO Ambassadors and the Ambassador of Russia in Brussels together.

Topics of discussion were the situation in Ukraine and compliance with the agreement of Minsk, where last year the conditions for a cease-fire in eastern Ukraine were established.

"The emphasis is on openness and reduce risk," said NATO. The situation in Afghanistan and other conflict are addressed.

In abeyance

The NATO-Russia Council has existed since 2002. The Western military alliance and Russia exchange views therein on international security issues. In 2014, NATO defense ministers suspended the consultations in protest against the Russian occupation of Crimea and Russia's interference in the conflict in eastern Ukraine. According to NATO, Russia had violated international law and agreements with NATO.

There is talk again, indicates that both parties consider restoring the relationship. It has not yet. "As long as Russia international law does not respect it's not business as usual," said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
