Cabinet: perhaps close 2 more coal plants soon

The government is considering short term to close two coal-fired plants. It involves Amer Power Plant 9 (near Geertruidenberg) and Hemweg 8 (near Amsterdam). This autumn, a knot severed permanently.

The closing of the two plants that were built in the 90s, in addition to the previously agreed upon conclusion of the five oldest coal-fired plants in the Netherlands. Minister Henk Kamp (Economic Affairs) and Secretary Sharon Dijksma (Environment) responding thus to the climate agreement in Paris and the ruling of the court in the climate issue.

In the case brought by sustainability organization Urgenda who ruled the Netherlands must do more to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Emissions
