Penalty for discriminating against gay trainee

Leeuwarden - The owner of a garden center who declined an intern last year because he is gay, has been fined 1,600 euros, of which 800 euros probation.

That decided the district court of Leeuwarden. According to the court has been made clear that the Christian owner trainee Bas van der Meer refused because of his sexuality.

The 42-year-old owner was not present at the session. He explained a statement confessing to the police. ,, I know I discriminate, but this is for me a matter of conscience, '' he told the agents.

In addition to the fine must also Henry B. damages of 1500 euros to the victim, Bas van der Meer, pay.
