Hedwigepolder expensive litigation State

The legal wrangling surrounding the Hedwigepolder means cash for the government attorney. Last year some 316,000 euros of taxpayers' money there.

This is evident from information obtained by this newspaper using a wob procedure.

In total, the government gave 22 million euros to law firm Pels Rijcken & Droogleever Fortuijn. It employs several lawyers representing the government and thus act as a country lawyer. That amount is slightly lower than previous years. The annual total has been fluctuating around 23 million times, but meanwhile the government has itself adopted more internal lawyers.

In second place in the top 10 with an amount of 300,000 euros, the lawsuit Foundation Urgenda filed against the State. Urgenda believes that the government must make more effort to reduce greenhouse gases. The court in The Hague stated environmental club last summer in the same. The State has already announced will appeal.

There is also a lot of tax money to for legal advice on road upgrades, such as the widening of the highway between Schiphol, Amsterdam and Almere (185,000 euros) and the N18 in Enschede (140,000 euros).

Another lawsuit swallows a decent pretty penny (143,000 euros) which the decommissioning costs of nuclear power plant in Dodewaard. Actually serve the owners do run on, but proved last year that they have enough money put aside. The government is now investigating with the State Attorney or the cost still on the owners or shareholders may be recovered.

The Ministry of Security and Justice finally had to pay the most last year, the country lawyer. The department contributed 6.6 million euros in fees, office expenses and VAT. At some distance to follow the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment (3.5 million) and the Ministry of Economic Affairs (3 million).
