Europe does not bow to the Turkish threat to terminate the refugee agreement with the European Union if the visa is not lifted accelerated for Turks.
"The EU allows certainly not blackmail," said Vice President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans at the German weekly Die Zeit.
The visa waiver clear conditions attached, said Timmermans. "Turkey is now taking on." He further states "that Turkey has made us end up with more than we need them."
In the previous month agreements, the EU promised Turkish end of June without a visa to travel to Europe and meet all the conditions. In the progress report last month that Turkey had fulfilled 35 of the 72 requirements. The European Commission will report next week on progress.
Ankara insisted also accelerate the negotiations on accession to the EU. Plus the Turkish dealing with fundamental rights and freedom of the press is important, but the country has in those areas steps behind off in recent years, says Timmermans.
