Ghost Riders drive especially in Brabant around and are often elderly drivers. If it goes wrong, the consequences are often dramatic. Like today: a 87-year-old spookrijder drove in Limburg, a mother of three children dead.
Figures for the average age of the spookrijder are not there. "But experience shows that many ghost riders are older," says Patrick Potgraven the Traffic Information Service (VID). "But just certainly not the young people who go the road with alcohol or narcotics."

Today it went horribly wrong on the A79 near Maastricht. A 87-year-old man from Schin op Geul rode there on a woman. The 39-year-old mother of three died. The children are seriously injured in hospital. The ghost driver survived the accident.
Last year, 104 were reported ghost riders. The year before there were 118. According to figures from the VID and the ANWB is ghost riding in winter more often than in the summer.And motorists often go off hours and on weekends the fog.
Brabant
Most ghost riders drove voriger year round in Brabant. Of the 104 notifications received the Traffic Information Service (VID), it was in 22 percent of cases, a ghost driver in Brabant."But it says nothing about the behavior of Brabant," says the VID.
Ghost Riding happens more often in Brabant because there are relatively many roads and because it is quieter in terms of traffic than in other parts of our country.

Ernst Koelman Traffic Prosecutor has announced that the annual OM dozens ghost riders bekeurt. Koelman: "These are people who have caused wrong-way driving sober and not an accident, they get it with a fine of 520 euros and a license suspension of six months.."
