One in eight children in the Netherlands are poor. They grow up in a family that often money comes too short and therefore often can not participate in fun things which are quite normal for many of their friends.

AGAIN INCREASED

According to new figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) grew in 2014 more than 420 thousand children in the Netherlands in poverty. A significant increase compared to the previous year.

That certainly does not say that they are hungry. For a family with two children is the low-income to 1920 euros per month. Who earns less, according to the CBS runs the risk of poverty.

NO SPORT OR ANNIVERSARY

Poverty in the Netherlands therefore does not feel hungry or without a roof over your head but that families can not always do it.

More than half of poor children for example, is not going on vacation every year. And half will receive fewer new clothes. They often can not on sports or music lessons.

More than 10 percent of the poorest children by lack of money can not go on school trips and birthday is not celebrated at home.

ROTTERDAM

The regional differences in the number of poor children are grown. Rotterdam takes the cake. A quarter of the children in the second city of the Netherlands is poor.

The CBS figures concern 2014, a year in which the number of unemployed increased and the number of benefits.

These numbers are now declining again. What is the effect on the number of poor children is not yet known.
