In 2015, the City Region counted Amsterdam, Almere and Haarlem 896 601 households. That is an increase of 3.3 percent compared to 2013. The pressure in the owner-occupied sector leads to high prices. But the interest in rental properties is high. According to the Greater extra attention needed to keep accessible and affordable social rental segment. The stock of this type of housing is in fact decreased. At the same time is less talk of 'crooked inhabitants', people with high incomes who are in a cheap apartment.

The number of dwellings in the free rental sector increases. Housing costs in this category, however, rose significantly, making it impossible for many households with low median income in this market to rent something. Stadsregio further notes that there is an aging population in the housing market, despite the increasing number of young people.
