There is no criminal case against the Dutch ex-soldier who would have traveled to Syria and there IS fighters would have slain.

That the Public Prosecutor (OM) announced Tuesday.

The 47-year-old man was arrested in early January after he had done extensive report on social media of his fight. He would have fought on the side of the disputed Kurdish militia YPG.

The investigation, according to the OM yielded insufficient evidence that the man has been personally involved in killing or attempting to kill IS fighters.
Exciting story

To the police, he stated that it was only an "exciting story" because "journalists want to hear exciting stories." He also invoked his right to remain silent.

It is therefore difficult to test his statements as evidence of the potential actions lacking. "Research on the spot in the current (war) conditions, no viable option," said the Prosecutor.

The prosecution has decided to dismiss the case against the ex-soldier. However, he once again stressed that citizens can not participate in an armed conflict.
