New fatal lung disease in young children discovered

Scientists have discovered a new genetic fault which leads to fatal pneumonia in young children.

The disorder is characterized by an increased susceptibility to infections and leading to a serious, fast developing respiratory tract infection in young children. This involves the mutation of a certain gene, which plays a role in the production of proteins that provide, among other DNA-repair.

This makes the system gets disrupted causing some damage chromosomes in the blood in patients. It is a genetic disorder.

The new syndrome is described this week in the Journal of Clinical Investigation.
