Court: Van Gelder sent right home

Van Gelder demanded participation in final and business class ticket to Rio Turner Yuri van Gelder was sent right home. Which has ruled the court in Arnhem Friday. Van Gelder was dismissed Monday after he had consumed alcohol outside the Olympic village. According to his lawyer was this punishment disproportionate, because the 33 year old gymnast would only have drunk "four or five" beers.

With the lawsuit Yuri van Gelder was hoping to return to Rio in order to enforce that participation in the Olympic final on the rings. He also demanded a eersteklas- or business class ticket back to Rio, and a fine of 150 thousand euros. The NOC * NSF regrets that it had to come to court. "We can now leave behind us for the rest of the Olympics."

The court ruling is final on the rings Monday definitively out of reach for Van Gelder. His place is forgiven now. The Frenchman Danny Pinheiro Rodrigues replace him.

According to lawyer Hellingman Cor Van Gelder four to five beers drunk in the Holland Heineken House. Then he would be escorted guests to their apartment in Rio de Janeiro, only to pick up his girlfriend and his fellow gymnast Jeffrey Wammes at a nightclub.

All the while, Van Gelder said during the meeting itself, he would not have been drinking. A little after five o'clock in the morning he returned to the Olympic village. Van Gelder missed the morning workout the next day - a course where his coach Bram van Bokhoven made him aware via Whatsapp. Van Gelder said that he has not read the message.

According Knijff Van Gelder had two days earlier already left the Olympic grounds without permission, to pick up his girlfriend from the airport. The lawyer noted that there was a serious breach of trust "between the NOC * NSF and Van Gelder.

Yuri van Gelder was sent home Monday. Chef de Mission Maurits Hendriks saw no option but to remove the gymnast from the Olympic village because he 'standards and values within TeamNL and gymnastics team has grossly exceeded.

The expulsion of Van Gelder has happened at the request of his coach. Van Bokhoven itself tells the Telegraph . Cocaine

Van Gelder has a turbulent past. After the world title he is caught in 2005 and European titles in 2005, 2008 and 2009 on the use of cocaine. He used the drug for years, he would admit. Van Gelder was suspended for a year by the Royal Dutch Gymnastics Union, and was not allowed to participate in the Games of 2012. After a comeback, he qualified for the apparatus finals in Rio. Minister Edith Schippers of sport said Friday the case "a great personal tragedy" for Van Gelder.
